Gravel Road Series World Edition
For the 2nd round of the new 2018 Gravel Road Series, the founder Franco Monchiero personally draw the race course on the surroundings of his hometown Alba using the hill roads and the trails naturally intersecting the landscape to create a panoramic but also technical stage for the event.
The Langhe region with its gently ascending hills covered with vineyards producing worldwide renowned wines, ancient villages and natural scenery will host the 2018 GRS round two giving it a vibrant and unique trait. As recognized by UNESCO, this land was sculpted by man work creating an unparallel heritage site that becomes even more lovable for its exceptional cuisine. Thus, an unmissable date for both the gravel rider lover and the traveler.
As introduced earlier, Franco Monchiero will play the double role as GRS Supervisor and race organizer and wanted to leave his personal signature to the GRS World Edition in Alba. Counting on his knowledge of the terrain, he designed a 100% Gravel race course giving it the shape of what he believes is the perfect gravel category event. He stated: it was a tough job but together with my staff we ideated a race course capable of challenging even the most hard core gravel riders.
The race course (87km and 1.300mt) goes up and down over several hills featuring climbs not big but capable to summon therider’s stamina while crossing vineyards home of the Barbaresco and Barolo wines. It is going to be hard but not impossible and surely doable for most of the amateurs and first timer gravel riders.
Three special stages are scheduled with different technical difficulties:
Almost completely on dirt soil with challenging descents and some climb sections. A new interpretation of gravel cycling.
A pedaling stage with a long downhill part mostly on gravel roads, some dirt soil sections and a short asphalt connecting segment.
A flat and fast stage on gravel roads.
In addition to the race course GPS tracks, other map for the spectators have been prepared, indicating alternative routes, food stops and best race view points.
The 2018 GRS World Edition in Alba will see competing the two winners of the 2017 edition (Martino Fruet and Rebecca Gariboldi and the winners of the 2018 Nova Eroica (Daniele Ratto – long distance circuit and Emanuele Poli –short circuit).
